For an introduction to the idea of "deep culture" see this article: Deep Culture and the Public Sphere which provides some starting ideas for trying to think about the meaning of phrases such as "public consciousness" or "political consciousness." Religion continues to be a factor in local, national and global politics these days and influences how people think and believe about political figures and programs and possibilities. The philosophic turn in the 20th century to the importance of language in creating personal and social consciousness and the immense growth of communication networks provide a new context for the creation of mental worlds with a variety of assumptions and prescriptions for how the future will come into being. In this section we explore these aspects of the postmodern condition and prospects for Social Democracy as the basis for practical governance.
