Historical Interpretation in Political Practice
The study of history is critical to understand or become involved in politics. Here are resources on this website: historical figures, events, documents.
By Ed Knudson
Today I have placed on this website some sub-sections having to do with historical interpretation which I believe is critically important to understand politics today and certainly to become successfully engaged with political or community organization. The sections are:
To interpret history it is helpful to get to know the key persons (figures) involved at historical turning points or events and to study the documents involved at those moments. Politics itself can be defined as a contest among competing interpretations of history.
We have also added two more sections. One especially for persons planning to run for office and one for citizen activists to begin meeting with one another in Study Circles. We seek the help of others in developing these sections. Please let us know your ideas and whether you might be able to help. ------------ Top image Text: "The more I study history, the more I seem to find That in every generation there are times just like that time When folks like you and me who thought that we were all alone Within this honored movement found a home." -- Si Kahn "I study history because I am interested in the future." -- Peter Rachleff Lyrics by Si Kahn, quote by labor activist historian Peter Rachleff & art by Ricardo Levins Morales drive home the importance of history in social change activism.
